Item 7.01 Regulation FD Disclosure.
     On April 13, 2009, MetLife, Inc. issued a press release in which it stated that it would not participate in the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Capital Purchase Program and that it had approximately $5 billion of excess capital at December 31, 2008. Excess capital at December 31, 2008 consisted of capital in MetLife, Inc.’s insurance subsidiaries in excess of what MetLife, Inc. believes would support a risk-based capital ratio of 350%, and additional available assets at the holding company. A copy of the press release is attached hereto as Exhibit 99.1 and is incorporated herein by reference.
