PRLog - Oct. 1, 2013 - LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- The BOLO Project, a yearlong fundraiser to benefit Leader Dogs for the Blind, has officially launched this week. Founded by Dog is Good, The BOLO Project was developed to raise awareness of the remarkable work dogs do for people every day, and will follow the journey of one puppy as he is trained to become a Leader Dog (more often referred to as a guide dog).
Leveraging social media and high profile sponsorships, The BOLO Project will publicly inform and showcase what is perhaps the ultimate connection between dogs and humans – providing “sight.” The BOLO Project will last approximately one year – the time from when the puppy (BOLO) is about seven weeks old until she is ready to begin the actual guide dog training. Over the course of the year, The BOLO Project will also provide an opportunity to recognize many other ways in which dogs positively impact human lives.
Approached by the team from Leader Dogs for the Blind, Dog is Good owners Jon and Gila Kurtz determined that raising a puppy would be a perfect fit for the Dog is Good mission: “deliver Dogvergnügen!” Dogvergnügen is a word they made up to describe how great one feels when with their dog. The special bond between a Leader Dog and someone who is visually impaired goes beyond Dogvergnügen - it is perhaps the epitome of the dog-human connection.
“We were very excited when Jon and Gila sent in their application to raise a Future Leader Dog,” said Sue Daniels, CEO and president of Leader Dogs for the Blind. “Our clients, volunteers and staff experience Dogvergnϋgen every day of their lives. The partnership with Dog is Good to educate more people about our wonderful canines and to raise money to support the services we provide is a great fit for both organizations.”
As part of the program kick-off, The BOLO Project is launching a fundraising campaign on Indiegogo.com. This fundraiser will run from Oct. 1 through Oct. 31, 2013 with the goal of raising $25,000 to benefit Leader Dogs for the Blind. The objective of this campaign is to generate interest and raise funds from individuals who would like to follow the progress of Bolo and contribute as a private donor.
“The Bolo project provides us with a way to truly showcase the meaning behind Dogvergnügen and to recognize what dogs do for people,” said Gila Kurtz, co-owner of Dog is Good and professional dog trainer. “It allows us to be personally and directly involved in the process of raising a Leader Dog while educating and raising money for a cause we believe in.” stated Kurtz.
