Fast Facts About Rear-End Collisions [Infographic]

AUSTIN, Texas - April 5, 2021 - PRLog -- Rear-end collisions most frequently occur when one vehicle is stationary and the other is traveling at a high rate of speed. According to the Insurance Information Institute, rear-end collisions make up 29% of all traffic accidents involving serious injuries. Rear-end accidents also cause over 7% of all traffic deaths and make up nearly 20% of fatal two-vehicle collisions. In fact, there were almost 2,500 fatal rear-end collisions in 2018.

Here are the most common rear-end collision scenarios:

  • A driver hits the back of a slower car on the highway;
  • A driver collides into another vehicle trying to turn;
  • A driver plans to speed through a traffic signal and misjudges the car in front of them;
  • A driver slams into a slow car at a green light.
