A career that now spans finance, artificial intelligence, strategy and Web3 began for Ervin Moriss with a Business Technology Management degree in Toronto.

More than a decade later, Moriss is the Co-Founder and CEO of KIVO, a Web3 platform focused initially on social prediction markets and ultimately on a broader social finance ecosystem.

The path between those two points was not a straight move from traditional technology into crypto. Instead, each stage added a different piece to the way Moriss approaches markets, products and company building.

From 2011 to 2015, Moriss studied at Ryerson University, earning a Bachelor of Commerce in Business Technology Management. The program sat naturally between two areas that would continue to shape his career: understanding how businesses operate and understanding the technology that increasingly supports those operations.

His first major professional chapter took him away from Toronto. In 2015, Moriss moved to New York and joined Jane Street as a Data Analyst. For the next several years, his work placed data inside a financial-market context. Numbers were not simply historical reports. They were part of decisions being made in environments where timing, accuracy and efficiency mattered.

That period developed Moriss’ interest in how information becomes actionable. It also exposed him to market structures where small operational differences can have meaningful consequences.

By 2018, his attention had moved from financial markets toward artificial intelligence. Moriss relocated to Montréal and joined Element AI as a Product Operations Manager. The change in industry also changed the nature of the problems in front of him.

AI development involved highly technical work, but product operations required looking beyond technical capability alone. A useful product also needed coordination. Product teams, engineers, researchers and business stakeholders had to understand what was being built, why it mattered and what needed to happen next.

The experience strengthened Moriss’ interest in cross-functional execution — the often less visible work required to move technology from an idea into something that organizations can actually use.

“The industries changed, but the underlying questions stayed surprisingly similar,” Moriss said. “What information matters? How does a decision get made? And how do people turn an idea into something that actually works?”

In 2021, Moriss returned to Toronto and began a period of working in stealth across strategy and operations. Rather than immediately attaching that period to a public-facing venture, he spent the following years exploring new ideas around technology, financial markets and decentralized infrastructure.

The timing coincided with rapid experimentation across blockchain networks, decentralized exchanges, digital assets and new forms of internet-native financial products.

By 2026, those years of exploration had evolved into KIVO. Moriss became Co-Founder and CEO, taking responsibility for the company’s broader business operations and strategy.

KIVO begins with prediction markets, but its longer-term ambition is wider. The platform is being developed around the idea that financial behavior is increasingly social. People do not simply buy and sell assets. They discuss markets, follow other participants, share ideas, develop strategies and build reputations around their decisions.

KIVO aims to bring these behaviors into a more connected Web3 environment. Its first stage focuses on social prediction markets, giving users a way to participate in markets while creating a public record around their views and outcomes. Future stages are designed to extend into a Social DEX, wallet infrastructure and a broader financial social network.

Seen through that lens, Moriss’ path to KIVO is less about changing industries and more about accumulating different ways of looking at the same problem. Business technology provided the foundation. Financial data brought exposure to markets. Artificial intelligence introduced product and automation questions. Strategy and operations created space to think about systems more broadly. KIVO is the next chapter in that progression.
