UNIONDALE, NY / ACCESS Newswire / June 24, 2025 / Marquis Who's Who honors Diane Marie Dudzinski, PhD, as a Top Scientist. Dr. Dudzinski's scientific career spanned over four decades, during which she served as a professor of biology at Washington State College of Ohio before her retirement.

About Dr. Dudzinski
Dr. Dudzinski's grandparents emigrated from Poland to the United States, and her mother was raised to speak fluent Polish and Russian. Dr. Dudzinski was born on the farm her family founded after they arrived in the country.
Dr. Dudzinski started her academic career at the Villa Maria College (now part of Gannon University) in Erie, Pennsylvania, in 1968. Sister Raymond Bohrer, her biology teacher, noticed that she was more advanced than the other students in her class and advocated for her placement in junior classes, particularly in biology.
Dr. Dudzinski enjoyed both biology and chemistry and was uncertain at that time which she would pursue as a career. Sister Bohrer continued to champion her and helped her enter undergraduate research, through which she became a laboratory assistant. Sister Bohrer is one of the people to whom she attributes her bravery in pursuing a career in science.
While attending the Eastern Science Conference through Fordham University, Dr. Dudzinski met Dr. John McLaughlin, who was the head of the biology program at the time. He became her mentor as she furthered her education and was one of the many professors and teachers who encouraged her. She went on to earn a master's degree and a Doctor of Philosophy from Fordham University in New York City.
Embracing the Challenges
Though Dr. Dudzinski has had a very accomplished career, it has not been without difficulties. She often faced challenges, such as people not understanding women who chose to embrace non-traditional roles in the sciences instead of adhering to traditional norms. She has, at times, faced opposition to her suggestions. Her doctoral work focused on the bleaching of coral reefs, and she gave a talk at the University of South Florida to discuss the recurrence of red tide, as the organisms involved are similar.
"The work that I did with the one I did with coral reefs is the same kind of thing I thought would help in the study of the red tide problem in Florida. If they studied the microorganism, they would better understand what was causing the periodic blooms," Dr. Dudzinski explains.
At that time, they were not receptive to Dr. Dudzinski, and the problem remains unsolved. However, she persevered despite opposition and has been heavily praised for her work, receiving multiple awards. One of her most significant accomplishments was being selected for a special grant program for science teachers at NASA. She was also the first female participant in the U.S.-USSR Joint Oceanographic Expedition to the Bering Sea.
"I did my best under difficult circumstances. I think you have to be hopeful. I am a very faith-based person. That helps, too. You have to have resiliency," Dr. Dudzinski says.
A Notable Career
For her accomplishments, Dr. Dudzinski is being honored as one of Marquis Who's Who Top Scientists. She was previously honored with inclusion in the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award, Marquis Who's Who Top Professionals, Who's Who of Professional Women, Marquis Who's Who Millennium Magazine, Who's Who in America, Who's Who of Industry Leaders and Who's Who in the World.
Looking ahead, Dr. Dudzinski hopes to continue gardening. Additionally, she hopes to reconnect with her family from Florida.
