Buggyra Academy France returns to home soil in Nogaro. Heat will be a challenge for everyone, says team boss Fabien Calvet

After a successful start to the season in the French truck racing championship, the drivers of Buggyra Academy France will compete on their home track in Nogaro. The academy is based in the southwest of France, where the team’s headquarters are located.

-- Following a strong result in Le Castellet, the academy drivers have a lot to build on. In the overall standings, Téo Calvet is defending his lead, Raphaël Sousa is second, and José Sousa holds fourth place.

“Nogaro is one of the most important races for us because it is the home of Buggyra Academy France. All our French partners will be there, as well as our families and the people of Nogaro who support us. Even the mayor of the town will be present,” noted Fabien Calvet, head of Buggyra Academy France.

“Nogaro is also a major racing challenge because all our students train there throughout the year. José and Raphaël Sousa also know the circuit very well—they’ve done a lot of laps there. After the good result in Le Castellet, we need to confirm the strong form of Téo, the trucks, and the whole team,” added the academy boss.

Reigning champion Téo Calvet is looking forward to Nogaro. “I love this race. I love the people here and the atmosphere in southwestern France. Our preseason testing here in Nogaro went pretty well, but the races will definitely be tough and competitive. Of course, we’ll try to deliver the best possible performance. I feel confident, but we still need to stay cautious, because others can surprise us,” said the French driver.

“This is the academy’s home ground, so we’ll hope for a good result for both José and Raphaël Sousa. We’ll be working as a team. The Sousas race under the VTR banner. This year, I chose to partner with Jonathan André from Lyon. We’re good friends and he used to be my engineer. From that perspective, it was a good way to rebuild the team,” explained Téo.

Alongside the narrow track, another big challenge awaits the drivers this weekend. “They’re forecasting very high temperatures—over 40 degrees during the weekend. That will obviously be tough not only for the drivers but also for the mechanics,” said Fabien Calvet.

The race weekend of the French championship consists of four races in total. On both days, the starting grid for the first race is determined by qualifying and the following Super Pole session. The second race, which offers fewer points, features a reversed grid for the top drivers.
