San Francisco Welfare Recipients Will Be Screened for Drugs

By: NewsUSA

(Matthew Du, NewsUSA Reporter) -

San Francisco Mayor London Breed pushed for city welfare recipients to undergo drug screening if reasonably suspected of the vice. Voters showed their strong approval of this measure.

There are no official guidelines yet, and the term "reasonably suspected" has not yet been qualified. If enacted, this policy will cover those aged 65 years and below who receive cash assistance.

Another measure that people voted positively on was the use of drones and surveillance cameras. Currently, these suggested measures have drawn criticism for being anti-poor while questioning public safety and privacy. It is also unknown what will happen to those who tested positive for illegal drugs and if there are city-sponsored rehabilitation programs.
