By: WebWire

Cassidy M. McKinnie tugs at the heartstrings of readers with her autobiography “A Mother's Curse” (Palmetto Publishing; 2021).

“A Mother's Curse” gives readers a glimpse into the author's life experience. Hard times are what made Cassidy strong and unbreakable, and have shaped her into the person she is meant to be. As a child, she went through many hardships and pain. She grew up without knowing her father, dealt with favoritism in her family, and suffered low body confidence. She was also bullied at school.

Cassidy's family was so poor that she never got to wear new clothes, only hand-me-downs from consignment shops, thrift stores, or her cousins. The family never went on a vacation, and she was so embarrassed she had to make up a story for her paper. Their utilities were cut off because bills were unpaid. At some point, the family had to eat out of the trash.

Even though her mother and stepfather both had full-time jobs, they were careless with money. Her parents were severe cheapskates, but Cassidy never understood why her family was so poor. So, she had to take a job – at age 12 – cleaning a neighbor's house every weekend.

The worse Cassidy had to endure was her mother, who was the source of her disappointments and lack of confidence and dignity. She suffered talk-down from her mother for being weak-minded and not knowing how to stand up for herself.

Cassidy felt as though her life was cursed because every time something good happened, something bad followed. She thought she could confide in her friends, family, and most importantly, her parents. Unfortunately, she lived a life of betrayal. However, she could handle much terrible circumstances in life, and she lived to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
