Two East Texas Juries Determine Samsung Owes a Combined $524 Million in Patent Infringement Verdicts

Miller Fair Henry attorneys provided guidance, strategy for significant trials

Global technology giant Samsung has been found to owe a combined $524 million in damages following two separate patent infringement verdicts handed down by federal court juries in the Eastern District of Texas.

The landmark verdicts were secured for the plaintiffs with the support of attorneys from Longview-based law firm Miller Fair Henry, who collaborated with lead trial counsel in local trial strategy and judicial processes in the Eastern District.

Most recently, a jury on Oct. 10 delivered a verdict of $445.5 million to Collision Communications Inc. after finding that Samsung infringed four patents related to wireless communication interference reduction used in its mobile devices. The plaintiffs’ legal team was led by Brad Caldwell, Chris Stewart, Justin Nemunaitis, Aisha Haley, and other attorneys at Caldwell Cassady & Curry.

On Sept. 29, a separate jury awarded $78.5 million to Anonymous Media Research Holdings Inc. after finding Samsung infringed on two patents covering technology used to measure media consumption in its televisions. Attorneys including Jason McManis and Weining Bai at Houston-based Ahmad, Zavitsanos & Mensing (AZA), as well as Warren McCarty of The McCarty Firm served as lead counsel.

“We are extremely pleased with these outcomes for our clients,” said Miller Fair Henry partner Andrea Fair, who conducted jury selection and examined witnesses in both trials.
