BERRY LAW RECEIVES 2023 HIRE VETS MEDALLION AWARD FROM THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF LABOR

Berry Law

Lincoln, Nebraska – U.S. Acting Secretary of Labor Julie A. Su recognized Berry Law as one of the 859 recipients of the 2023 HIRE Vets Medallion Award during a virtual award ceremony presented by U.S. Department of Labor.

Berry Law earned the Gold HIRE Vets Medallion award after applying earlier this year. The Honoring Investments in Recruiting and Employing American Military Veterans Act (HIRE Vets Act) Medallion Program is the only federal award program that recognizes employers who successfully recruit, hire, and retain veterans.

Our veteran team members are essential to Berry Law’s success. We aim to not only recruit, hire and retain these talented men and women, but to promote them to leadership positions to ensure the continued success of the firm.

Berry Law joins 858 other companies from 49 states, plus the District of Columbia, who have shown a commitment to hiring veterans, but also ensuring that they have a long-term career and growth plan that uses the diverse skills they acquired through their military service.

Recipients of the 2023 HIRE Vets Medallion Award meet rigorous employment and veteran integration assistance criteria, including veteran hiring and retention percentages; availability of veteran-specific resources; leadership programming for veterans; dedicated human resource efforts; pay compensation and tuition assistance programs for veterans.

More than 1,600 employers have earned a HIRE Vets Medallion Award since 2018.

Berry Law has its very roots in the American Armed Forces. John Berry is himself an Army veteran who was deployed to Bosnia for Operation Joint Forge as a platoon leader. He later served as a Company Commander in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom. This is the 3rd year Berry Law has been awarded the HIRE Vets Medallion, the latest in a long list of veteran-related achievements for the firm including recognition in VETS Indexes Employer Awards and by Military Times as a ‘Best for Vets’ Employer. This year, Berry has been named the Honorary Mission Commander for the 50 Mile March, an annual charity event in which participants walk from Lincoln to Omaha to raise funds and awareness for homeless veterans and veterans with mental health challenges. He’ll also serve as the Grand Marshal of the Lincoln Veteran’s Parade, the theme of which is Veterans in Business. Berry Law has additionally received praise from Camp Cowboy, an organization that aids veterans with PTSD by training them to become cowboys and helping them build bonds with both animals and other veterans.

I am honored to receive the HIRE Vets Medallion for the 3rd time this year. Our veteran team members are essential to the success and growth of Berry Law. I am grateful and fortunate to have them on the team.

John launched a new podcast, Veteran Led, in October of this year. He shares stories about the military lessons he learned that helped him grow a successful business, and why having team members with the same work ethic and value system has been essential to this success. Starting this Veteran’s Day weekend, he will release a special edition interview episode with Senator Tom Brewer, with more interviews featuring prominent veteran leaders to follow this December. The podcast can be found on all major listening platforms as well as YouTube.
