Humana Foundation grants boost local efforts
CenterWell Home Health, one of America’s leading providers of home health, has collected food and monetary donations amounting to more than 287,000 meals in its 21st annual food drive to feed people in the communities it serves around the country.
Thanks to the generosity of people across the organization, CenterWell collected food and cash equivalent to 137,888 meals. With a boost from grants from the Humana Foundation, the tally rose to 287,888 meals – 20% higher than last year’s total.
“This food drive is a powerful example of what we can accomplish together,” said Sherri Rains, BSN, RN, CWOCN, chief clinical officer for CenterWell Home Health. “Our clinicians see firsthand how access to nutritious food impacts health and well-being. Contributing to this effort allows us to strengthen the communities we serve.”
With more than 350 branches in 37 states, CenterWell Home Health provides clinical care in the home to help patients regain their confidence and independence. Whether managing a chronic condition or recovering from illness, injury, surgery or hospitalization, CenterWell’s nurses and therapists work together with patients, their families and their primary care providers to create personalized care plans.
Over the two decades-plus of the food drive, CenterWell Home Health has collected over 1.6 million meals, with contributions going to eligible 501(c)(3) organizations that provide food to their respective communities.
CenterWell Home Health branches across the country were invited to participate in the drive, and the three most successful branches were each rewarded with $5,000 cash grants from the Humana Foundation. The grants will further boost efforts to assist local charitable organizations.
The regional operations office in Atlanta finished first this year, collecting food and cash valued at more than 34,000 meals, benefiting an organization called Manna. The CenterWell branch in Hickory, N.C., collected more than 21,000 meals to benefit the Hickory Soup Kitchen. Finishing third was the Parkersburg, W.V., branch, collecting 20,000 meals to benefit Moon King Fund for Humanity and the Salvation Army.
