As Tandem PV transitions from pilot production to commercial scale, the company continues to expand its leadership team to ensure world-class performance, reliability, and manufacturing excellence. Dr. Meagley’s appointment underscores Tandem PV’s dedication to technical innovation and operational rigor as it brings to market the most advanced solar panels in the industry with the world’s best combination of efficiency and durability.

“After surveying the field, it was clear to me that Tandem PV is the global industry leader in turning high-efficiency perovskite-silicon technology into a manufacturable product,” said Dr. Robert Meagley. “The combination of technical depth, disciplined execution, field performance, and a world-class team makes it the standout choice. Tandem PV’s technology is uniquely positioned to make perovskite-silicon panels not just a lab breakthrough, but a scalable, durable, and sustainable solution for affordable and clean energy. It’s an incredible opportunity to join the team that will reclaim American leadership in solar technology.”

A recognized leader in materials science and solar innovation, Dr. Meagley joins Tandem PV from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Solar Energy Technologies Office (SETO), where he managed national R&D and commercialization programs across photovoltaics and advanced materials. His work at the DOE focused on accelerating U.S. solar manufacturing, a mission closely aligned with Tandem PV’s goal of reestablishing American leadership in solar production.

“We’ve known Rob for years through his work at the Department of Energy, where he earned a reputation as one of the world’s leading experts in solar materials and quality systems,” said Scott Wharton, CEO of Tandem PV. “His ability to bridge cutting-edge research with disciplined, scalable manufacturing will help ensure that both our R&D and production are consistent, reliable, and ready for growth.”

Dr. Meagley brings more than two decades of experience in nanotechnology, materials engineering, and clean energy manufacturing. At Intel Corporation, his innovations in process engineering and intellectual property generated over $250 million in cost savings and led to 43 U.S. patents. He later served as principal investigator and Intel's researcher-in-residence at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, developing next-generation materials for semiconductor manufacturing. Dr. Meagley also founded two startups focused on advanced materials and their integration. He holds a Ph.D. in chemistry and biochemistry from the University of Delaware and completed postdoctoral research at Cornell University and at UC Berkeley.

Following a recent $50 million Series A funding round, Tandem PV is building a U.S.-based manufacturing facility to scale its proprietary tandem perovskite-silicon solar architecture, a technology that delivers industry-leading efficiency, durability, and sustainability. The company’s panels currently achieve 29% efficiency, making them 30% more powerful than the average silicon solar panel. Tandem PV’s panels lower land and labor costs, dramatically reducing the levelized cost of energy (LCOE) for solar generation.

By manufacturing domestically, Tandem PV is helping reduce dependency on foreign suppliers, strengthen supply chains, and advance U.S. clean energy independence. The company’s innovations position it at the forefront of a rapidly emerging market expected to reach gigawatt-scale perovskite module production by 2028.
