Smart Dust semiconductors by EPIC were selected for their potential to revolutionize defense operations through battery-free, non-RF sensing in contested environments.
(PRUnderground) March 30th, 2025
EPIC Semiconductors Inc., a pioneering developer of next-generation sensing and semiconductor technologies, today announced that it has achieved “Awardable” status through the DARPA Expedited Research Implementation Series (ERIS) Marketplace.
The ERIS Marketplace is a transformative digital platform designed to accelerate acquisition velocity and advance national security innovation. All 7-minute awardable solutions housed in the repository have been assessed through comprehensive scoring rubrics and competitive procedures and are readily available for selection, negotiation, and award by Government customers with a Marketplace account.
EPIC Semiconductors’ Smart Dust solution offers an entirely new class of energy-autonomous, battery-free, non-magnetic semiconductors. These ultra-miniaturized systems provide autonomous, secure sensing and communication in the most extreme environments — including metal-dense, underwater, and electromagnetically hostile domains — without relying on traditional RF communication, antennas, or batteries. Their revolutionary architecture delivers resilient, real-time data for strategic applications.
“Being recognized by DARPA’s ERIS Marketplace is a major milestone,” said Linda Zadeh, CEO of EPIC Semiconductors. “We’re honored to be selected among a competitive field of innovators and excited to make Smart Dust technology available to government missions where traditional sensing solutions fall short.”
EPIC Semiconductors’ video, Smart Dust: Revolutionizing Strategic Defense Sensor Technology, accessible only by government customers on the DARPA ERIS Marketplace, presents an actual use case in which the company demonstrates how Smart Dust enables always-on, autonomous monitoring in high-threat operational domains without dependence on RF infrastructure or external power sources.
EPIC Semiconductors was recognized among a competitive field of applicants to the ERIS Marketplace whose solutions demonstrated innovation and potential impact on DoD missions. Government customers interested in viewing the video solution can create an ERIS Marketplace account at www.darpaconnect.us/eris.
