Marquis Who's Who Honors Lou Confessore, EdS, for Dedication to Youth Development and Physical Education

UNIONDALE, NY / ACCESS Newswire / October 23, 2025 / Marquis Who's Who Honors Lou Confessore, EdS, for his dedication to youth development and physical education. As the founder and director of the Coral Estates Soccer Club Inc., Mr. Confessore has spent nearly six decades enriching the lives of children through sports, mentorship and community engagement.

About Lou Confessore

Mr. Confessore has more than four decades of experience in education and youth sports development, serving as an integral part of his Miami community for 65 years. After serving in the U.S. Army, he began his career as a teacher in 1961 and founded the Coral Estates Soccer Club Inc. in 1966. He also served his community as a physical education teacher for four decades at the Coral Park Elementary School in Miami-Dade County.

The Coral Estates Soccer Club has remained at the same park since its inception as an after-school program that Mr. Confessore started on his own. While the community surrounding the field has changed over time, his unwavering dedication to youth sports has remained constant. He is proud that the program has enriched countless lives by fostering deep connections among the young participants.

Mentoring Young Immigrants

When Mr. Confessore started the club, most of the young people in attendance were immigrants from Cuba. Today, the youth are from throughout South and Central America. He has been instrumental in helping young people integrate into life in the U.S. In the 1960s school system, teachers played records with Spanish instructions for their students while speaking only English, aiming to immerse the students in the English language to facilitate their learning. Mr. Confessore followed this approach with the soccer club.

"I never spoke Spanish. I worked in that community for 40 years. I've been there for 60 years, and I never spoke Spanish. People look at me and ask why I never learned Spanish. I said I was too busy teaching Cuban kids how to speak English," Mr. Confessore says. "I was very proud that by Christmas, the kids were fighting with each other in English. That was a big thing. They were getting their immersion informally, at least for that half hour every day. They were also learning to deal with each other, which was another big part of the physical education teacher's job."

The foundation of Mr. Confessore's career and success lies in his curiosity, personal growth and robust educational background. He earned a bachelor's degree in physical education from Adelphi University, a master's degree in physical education and safety from the University of Miami and an Educational Specialist degree from Barry University.

Advocating for Physical Education

Mr. Confessore strongly advocates for physical education, believing it is essential to students' overall development. He emphasizes that it helps develop skills such as reading, math and social interaction.

"PE involves understanding directions, angles and strategy, connecting closely with academic subjects. It also supports children with learning differences, like dyslexia and autism, by encouraging teamwork, sharing and community," says Mr. Confessore.

Throughout his career, his wife, Harriet, has been his biggest supporter and a devoted fan of the soccer club since its inception. At the age of 88, Mr. Confessore remains optimistic that his soccer club will continue thriving into the future and aspires for it to serve as a model for other communities. He has been mentoring and training administrators who desire to replicate his success.

In recognition of his achievements in education, Mr. Confessore was honored with inclusion in Marquis Who's Who's prestigious biographical volumes.
